Following the Monarchs

Every year " The Monarchs " begin their migration from Canada to central Mexico, to the
state of Michoacan. At an altitude of approx 12,000 ft, yes, you HAVE TO WALK UP THAT HIGH, they come to rest between the months of November to March.
They begin their journey from Canada in Mid November and the new generation leaves central Mexico in mid March. It's been said that in mid March there are days one can see "orange columns" rising from the forest high up in to the sky, where these delicates creatures look
for the air currents to take them back to Canada.

This Sanctuary is said to be one of the biggest at the moment.
Once you have reached the parking lot of the sanctuary ( at 9,000 ft above sea level )
there is a grueling walk up the hill to reach the top - ( approx 12,000 ft above sea level )
There are entire families walking up; on one of my MANY MANY stops i struck a conversation
with an 80 year old woman who was doing the trek..... " is one of the wonders of the world
and i have to see it before i die " she told me.
This is truly a wonder not to be missed. Bring your walking shoes, walking stick if you have them, lots of energy and let these creatures take you back to an enchanted forest.

The numbers this year is in the MILLIONS of them .. however it has been estimated that this is
only 1/2 of the numbers of recent years, due to deforestation and loss of habitat along the way...

I hope you like the photos... and PLEASE .. BE GREEN.
